What to Buy In July

July 1st, 2014

July_calendarWhat to Buy In July

Last year, Seven 11 offered free Slurpees(R) on July 11th. Since they’ve been doing that every year for a few years, it’s probably safe to assume they’ll do it again this year.

Don’t forget that home improvement centers like Home Depot offer free classes for kids age 5-12 on the weekends. There are usually some cool hands-on projects like making a birdhouse.

4th of July Sales

The 4th of July falls on a Friday, so look for sales to begin that week and extend through the weekend. It is an excellent time to score a discount on summer items while they’re still in-season. Look for summer clothing sales that slash 50% to 60% off. We also expect to see patio sets at up to 50% off, while grill deals will increase in volume with discounts of $30 to $100. (However, keep in mind that both will continue to see steeper discounts as the summer progresses, especially grills.)

Also look for summer time deals in:

  • Patio/Party: (furniture, decorations, flags, dishware, lighting/candles)
  • Outdoors: (camping, fishing, grilling accessories, patio furniture & accessories)
  • Air Conditioners: (window AC units and installation discounts, fans, shades, etc)
  • Summer Outdoor Toys: (pool and water toys, swings, yard games, etc)

Also video game deals will be exceedingly great around July 4. But don’t let the sales go to your head. 4th of July sales are an awful time to buy an appliance.

And watch the prices on air conditioners. Some stores may increase the price after the sales are done.

What to Buy

Winter and Spring clothing will be in the bargain basement clearance racks. Summer clothes will be on sale. Back to school clothing like jeans are getting random sales.

Summer months are generally a bad season for TV deals, but if you find yourself in dire need of a new set, there are a few categories you should look at. Off-brand 55″ LCDs, for instance, have been holding steady at $500 since January, the second-best price of the year. Look to Best Buy and Sears for deals on models from the likes of Westinghouse and RCA.

And this is a great month for laptop deals including those with touch screens.

What to Wait On

Wait until Labor Day sales for bedding as the discounts are usually deeper then. You’ll also have a better selection.

Wait until September or October for huge discounts on patio sets.

Sunglasses are at their best price in September, November and December.

Wait for better deals on the new Amazon Fire Phone and the new iMac.

Generally speaking, this is a bad month to buy televisions.
